Like most equipment you own, forklift parts will need to be replaced throughout your lifetime of ownership. With any equipment, parts replacement can be complicated when there isn’t periodic maintenance and cheap parts fail, causing downtime for your operation. For example, fuel hoses are obviously not a part found on an electric forklift but neglecting to check them on your IC forklift can cause serious downtime. However, a more time-effective alternative is to invest in a fleet management system. Fleet management systems allow you to keep tabs on your whole fleet with integrated software. With a fleet management system, you will be notified if a forklift is displaying signs it may have a part that needs repairing.

Don’t wait for parts to go bad to replace them. Take the time to find out what the lifecycle of your forklift parts is, and then set up a schedule that makes sense for your operation to periodically replace parts as they exhibit wear and tear. Having a regular preventative maintenance schedule and periodically replacing parts can increase the lifespan of your forklift and prevent downtime, maximizing your ROI. Having this basic understanding will also help you determine how long replacement parts and installation can take and schedule your operations accordingly.
